The verdict

Fairy Falls is the most accessible waterfall within reach of Hoi An — just over an hour's drive inland into the hills, on sealed road the whole way. There no trek to speak of, and no need for a guide. What you get is a series of tiered pools and broad flat boulders, and water cold enough to be a cool relief in the dry-season heat.

Bring water and snacks with you. Both times we’ve visited there have been local teenagers selling water, beer and even chicken - but this isn’t a given.

Fair Falls gets gets crowded on the weekends, and later into the afternoon. For the best experience visit weekdays, through the morning. Avoid during rainy season, or even shoulder season due to flash flooding risks.

01 Getting there You can hire a driver for under a million VND return for this trip, and they’ll wait at the entrance but it’s more convenient (and a pretty great drive) to hop on the motorbike and venture out to the falls. 02 While you're there There's a 10-20,000 parking fee when you arrive. If not collected when you arrive, they’ll collect it when you leave. Sit on the rocks, or rent a platform for 300,000 VND (full day). Do this Bring cash. There’s no machine to pay for the parking, rental or drinks from the local teens

03 What's nearby Keep going up to find the second pool with deeper water that you can jump into. Flip flops are too slippery to make this climb - so do it barefoot or with proper footwear. Do this Venture up to the falls above - it's an epic hidden pool.
