Hội An has markets the way it has lanterns - everywhere. Three kinds, really. The Central Market in the Old Town, where the food stalls are the draw. The Night Market across the river, lantern-lit and made for photos, but more souvenir crush than local life. And the neighbourhood markets most visitors passing through never find, where the town actually shops.
That’s Chợ Bà Lệ for us. Can't find it at the stalls outside? Head inside - the covered section runs deep, from produce and herbs to pasta, spices, and soap. You can find almost everything that you need at Bà Lệ. It’s so good that it’s where you’ll find the market tours passing through mid-day before they head to their cooking class to create a meal with their fresh ingredients.

Our market — the one we shop for everything. A proper neighbourhood market with no souvenirs and no English menus, just produce, herbs, and the everyday business of a Hội An kitchen. Can't find it at the stalls outside? Head inside, where the covered section runs deep — pasta, spices, soap, the lot. You could feed a family off Bà Lệ alone. Most visitors never find it, which is exactly the point.
