Dinner at the Four Seasons — without staying

Café Nam Hai, the Indian restaurant at Four Seasons Resort The Nam Hai, is open to outside diners — which makes it one of the most accessible ways to step inside one of Hội An's most exclusive resorts. The Tuesday Tandoori Kebab Night is the draw, the setting feels like an episode of White Lotus, and the service is the real standout. Under 200,000₫ to get there by car, and it's a genuine date night.

A pool day at Shilla Monogram

For a flat day-pass fee, the Shilla Monogram — the Korean five-star on Hà My Beach — hands you the pools, the daybeds, and the amenities for the whole day. There's an adults-only pool, showy cocktails served in whole pineapples and watermelons, strong coffee, and a lime sorbet worth the trip on its own. Passes start at 350,000₫ (pool only), or 600,000₫ with a food-and-beverage credit built in.

Afternoon tea at Hoiana

The gentlest way into a five-star setting, and one of the best-value. Hoiana Resort & Golf does an afternoon tea with cakes so realistic they look like real fruit, straight off Is It Cake? — all for under a million đồng for two. Take it in the elegant tea room, or upstairs at the Edge bar for beach views from the 17th-floor infinity pool. There's even been a Jo Malone London collaboration with scent-inspired cocktails. One catch: it needs booking ahead with a deposit, and the resort is well out of town.

The most family-friendly door of the lot, and the only one right in the centre of town. Wafaifo Resort's "Swim City" is open to the public — outside guests can use the temperature-controlled salt-water pool just by buying a drink, no room and no day-pass fee. Poolside there's wood-fired pizza, burgers, and ice cream, and — the part nobody expects — a private eight-seat cinema you can book for around 300,000₫, choose-your-own-movie, with a pizza and popcorn included. Put the kids in the cinema and relax poolside, or make it the family's beat-the-heat afternoon. A 10-minute walk from the Old Town.

The signature splurge: sushi at Hotel Royal

When you want one properly special night, Wakaku at the Hotel Royal Hoi An serves the best sushi in town — and its showstopper is a dry-ice sushi birthday cake that feeds two. It's the priciest pick here, but for an anniversary or a birthday, it's the kind of evening you actually remember, inside one of the few true luxury hotels in the Old Town.

How to do it well

A few things we've learned making the most of resort luxury on a budget:

  • Book ahead. Resort restaurants and day passes are often reservation-only, and the good tables and daybeds go first.

  • Time it around an event. Kebab nights, seasonal brunches, and special menus are where these places show off — ask what's on when you book.

  • Do the day-pass math. If a pass comes with a food-and-beverage credit, and you were going to eat and drink anyway, the upgrade often pays for itself.

  • Dress the part. You're a guest for the evening — lean into it. It's half the fun.

  • Get there by car. Most of these sit outside the Old Town, on the beach between Hội An and Da Nang. A taxi or Grab is cheap and means you can enjoy a cocktail without worrying about the ride home.

You don't need a resort budget to have a resort day. You just need to know which doors are open — and now you do.
