MÙA: 14 Courses in a Herb Garden, for a Million Đồng

Here's the maths that stops you in your tracks. A 14-course tasting menu, plated like something out of a Michelin guide, served in a candlelit herb garden in the Hội A countryside — for around one million đồng for the full dining experience.

What it is

MÙA. The word means "seasons" in Vietnamese, and that's the whole idea - a modern Vietnamese fine-dining restaurant set in the Trà Quế Vegetable Garden, about ten minutes from the Old Town. It's run by chef Tru Lang, who was born in France and cooked his way through acclaimed kitchens around the world before coming home to Hội An. The restaurant sits right in the garden that grows much of what you eat - and you can see it through the floor-to-ceiling glass, herb beds all around, cicadas as the soundtrack. It's fine dining without the stiffness: barefoot-luxury, farm-to-table, and a quiet confidence.

The 14-course Menu

The format is a set seasonal tasting menu that follows the rhythm of a traditional Vietnamese meal — cooler, fresher dishes first, building toward a claypot rice course, then light fruit-based desserts to finish. Fourteen courses of it, each one plated as carefully as anything you'd get at triple the price, all built around what's ripe in the garden and the region that week. Because it's seasonal and often a "surprise" menu, you're eating what's actually best right now, not a fixed card that's been sitting there for a year.

And the price is the headline: around a million đồng for the full fourteen courses. For a chef-driven, garden-to-plate degustation with this kind of provenance, that's remarkable value — the sort of number that makes a first-time visitor double-check they read it right.

Add the cocktail pairing. If you're already making a night of it, the paired-drinks add-on is worth the splurge — and it was a lot of fun. You could tell each cocktail had been thoughtfully crafted with the flavours and the courses in mind, built to play off what was on the plate rather than just poured alongside it. It turns a lovely dinner into a proper occasion, and it's the upgrade we'd tell you not to skip.

Know before you go

  • Book ahead. Seating is limited and it's reservation-driven — it's not a walk-in kind of place.

  • Hours: dinner only, roughly 5–9pm daily.

  • Getting there: about ten minutes by car/taxi from the Old Town, out in the Trà Quế gardens. Easy Grab ride.

  • You can sit inside. The garden setting is lovely, but if the mozzies worry you, ask for an indoor table — we sat inside and didn't notice a single one. (If you're out in the garden at dusk, bring spray.)

  • Leave the kids at home. Full stop.

Don’t Skip this Meal

Honestly, it was one of the most beautiful meals we've had in Hội An — and we don't say that lightly. Every course arrived plated like a small piece of art, and every course came with a story: where the ingredients came from, what the dish meant, why it was on the menu that season. And it wasn't a rehearsed script — each plate was served with real passion, the team clearly proud of what they were putting in front of you. That storytelling, and the warmth behind it, is what lifts the whole thing from "very good dinner" to an experience you're still talking about afterward.

So: it's a splurge, and it's absolutely worth reserving in advance for. For a beautiful, story-rich, chef-driven tasting menu at around a million đồng, it's a steal. Save it for an anniversary, a birthday, or the night you want Hội An to feel a little magic. It's a proper splurge date night — the kind you plan the evening around. A non-rushed, gorgeous dining experience.

And here's the real endorsement: it's one of the few places we actively look forward to going back to. Because the menu turns over with the seasons (that's the whole point of the name), it's never the same meal twice — so returning isn't repeating a night, it's a brand-new one. We're already waiting on the next seasonal change to book again.
